Recent findings in biomechanical and motor control studies integrate with adapted yoga and belly dance methodologies to offer a multi-systems approach to women's health and pre/post natal fitness and rehabilitation . Movements integrate awareness, intention, and the dual functions of postural-ventilatory muscles with alignment, timing, and efficient patterns of co-activation. Traditionally, fitness, dance, rehabilitation, and childbirth programs have focused on a reductionistic model (treating or working with parts). However, as evidence suggests, our body systems function as an integrated whole.
Did you know belly dance is the most ancient form of dance that originated as a ritual to celebrate and aid women during childbirth? Once adapted, yoga and belly dance movements have many benefits and indications for their use as a form of childbirth preparation, fitness, prevention, and rehabilitation for women of all ages & abilities. Specific movements of the spine, rib cage, pelvis, and extremities with a scientific basis offer a sound approach that is safe, effective, and healing. This approach celebrates a woman's femininity and is done in a joyful and nurturing atmosphere.
Indicated for individuals of all ages and abilities including individuals with orthopedic, neurological, lymphatic, circulatory, womens health, cardiopulmonary, and developmental impairments. Individuals with low back pain, pelvic pain, and sacroiliac joint pain, fibromyalgia, urinary incontinence, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, and depression may also benefit greatly from this approach.
